One of my surfing heroes “Jeff Hakman” has a life story more interesting than the one of many; filled with ups, downs, sidestepping and all that jazz. With years of preparation and planning producer Pierre Weisbein has taken on the challenge of taking this true story onto the big screen. The film will be based on the book Mr Sunset (Phil Jarratt) with a treatment written by Jamie Brisick.

When the question came to me if I wanted to be the art director of the project… I said YES!

The sun rising over the ocean stares you blind. Half awake I grabbed my cam and snapped a strange daze covering the horizon. My favorite hue is that silver, grey burnt out white. Gathering a series I´ll put up sometime.
Big waves today, Manly and I managed to get my 200 mm out to snap a few shots. Although. noticing I need to get closer than 200mm. nuggets.

A film named ‘Splinters’ by Adam Pesce takes us the village of Vanimo, where an Australian pilot left a surfboard back in 1980… and tells the story of the massive impact this have had on the villagers and life there. Seems like a very unique and interesting film.

I guess that is a true sign of the artist having found their own way of art may it be through style, technique, material, shape, outcome or whatever. I’d say the artist Guy Laramee has totally created an instant recognition in these books turned into landscapes. Truly original and beautiful.

The Masters Apprentices was a band formed in Adelaide in 1966 and unless you’re into the early rock psychedelia, these guys have probably missed your radar.

The song is “Easy to Lie” from the album Choice Cuts, 1971. Happy Australia Day mates…

The last days have been blessed with great surf and it looks like we will have yet another week of good E swells. I can only hope that the comp gets at least one swell passing through so that the best surfers in the world get to showcase their skills.

As far as crowds go, Manly will turn into a circus even more so than what the regular visiting surfers and tourists do… but I think that we will get to see some epic action. With en masse events comes both the good, the bad and the ugly. Can’t wait!
